We all agree that nothing beats the sensation you get when you down a bottle of cold water or soda when you are hot. That chilling and refreshing sensation could akin to seeing a river in a desert. As rewarding as cold water can be, in hot weathers like ours, experts say that it comes with serious health consequences. They warn that one may need to hands off drinking cold water regularly due to its negative impact on the heart and the digestive system. Consultant nutritionist, Dr. Tosin Akinsanya, says even though the body cannot have too much of water, it complains when it has too much of cold water. According to the food and healthy living expert, cold water is at a temperature that contradicts the overall temperature within the body system. VC advises students on IT development

The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Prof. Olusola Oyewole, has urged graduates to channel their skills into national development. Oyewole made the appeal during the induction of the Computer Science graduates of the university to the Computer Professionals’ Registration Council of Nigeria. The Vice-Chancellor, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Adekojo Waheed, noted that the world’s economy was Information Technology driven and as professionals, they had a vital role to play in the growth and development of the nation. Oyewole said, “Today, IT is relevant to all the sectors of our economy, such as commerce, health, industries and education and your induction places a huge responsibility on you”. Parties kick as plot to sack Jega thickens.

       The plot to sack the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, is gathering momentum, The PUNCH investigations have revealed. Jega’s tenure ends on June 30 but his traducers, especially some Peoples Democratic Party members, are already compiling what they described as his ‘sins’ to ensure that he proceeds on terminal leave before the March 28 and April 11 elections. Findings on Monday revealed that the “sins” include alleged transfer of some INEC officials considered close to them out of their departments where their input might not be useful in the conduct of the elections. It was also gathered that the PDP members, who are close to the Presidency, feel that Jega is becoming unapproachable on issues. 21,000 apply for Edo teaching jobs.

The Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, on Monday said his administration would engage the services of only qualified teachers to improve standard of education in the state. Governor Oshiomhole stated this when he received a committee report on the recruitment of teachers for the state ministry of education in Benin. He explained that strength of the state’s teaching staff was inadequate as against the number of schools available, adding that those recommended by the committee, irrespective of their state of origin, would be engaged.‎ Oshiomhole stated that the state government had demonstrated, through its intervention and by the quality of schools built, that “education for us is at the heart of our future.” He added, “Our future lies in producing the best of human capital, and where merit is required, our people would be a first choice. “I know for a fact that we still need more teachers, we still have schools without enough teachers, and this is premised on the problem of po...
