A medical library considered to be the best in the country has been constructed for the EKSU College of Medicine. The keys to the building were handed over to EKSU Vice- Chancellor, Professor Patrick Oladipo Aina, on Tuesday June 11, 2013.
The Vice-Chancellor who was visibly happy at the occasion said the feat of having a medical library described by several people as the best in any college of medicine in Nigeria, was achieved through the grace of God and the co-operation of members of staff.
He told the gathering at the handing-over ceremony that the funding of the construction was from the Internally Generated Revenue ( I G R) of the university with the support of the State government.
Prof Aina said that the handing over of the medical library worth over N194million indicated the new tempo of construction of functional buildings in the university.
The Vice -Chancellor expressed the hope that six other building projects would be commissioned soon in the university. Speaking, the Dean, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Professor Adeyinka Afolayan who represented the Provost, College of Medicine, Professor G.J.F Esan at the occasion noted that the building was the medical library was the best in the country, saying,’’ this one surpasses the one in Ibadan”. Professor Afolayan commended the vice- chancellor for the construction of the building and noted that it would aid the development of the College of Medicine and the accreditation of its programmes.
The Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Professor Akin Araoye also commended the Vice- Chancellor for his dedication and promised to donate several journals to the library. The keys of the library were handed over to the Vice- Chancellor by the contractor Chief Oyedeji Olajubu
